There's been more activity already at the Blog than we've had
on this site in more than 9 months! So check it out!!

Current Standings
Cool For Cats

Second verse, same as the first. Danny Andren is off to a strong start and if past performance is any indication, he could be up around the top of the standings for a long time this year. After two weeks, Danny is the only person in the league to NOT suffer 10 losses yet.

Also continuing their hot starts are Leontine and Roy (aren't those the gay tiger guys?) along with Will Wong (certainly not a gay tiger guy). Poking her head into the Top 5 is Emma The Cat, who is also not a tiger nor a guy, but the jury is still out on her sexual preference. Also making the Top 5 and tied with Emma are Jeff Vanek (not a gay tiger) and Mike Hogg (not a pig). Hoggie had the best record of Week 2 with a 12-4.

Secure in the FBH dungeon is Dave "The Dane" Schwade, the only one of us not to score a 10th victory yet.

Last week's picking trends: We got 37 sets of picks last week. 30 people correctly took Buffalo and laid 3.5 points to Tampa Bay, while only 7 people correctly took Chicago getting 2.5 points.

Good luck to everyone next week!

PPP
Every Dog Has His Day (to return to the NFL)

Last week we asked for your opinions on the return of Michael Vick. Now that he's done his time in prison, the NFL is allowing him back into the league for Week 3 of the NFL season. SHOULD he be allowed back?

19 people said YES
13 people said NO

Comments:

Tom Schwade: They let murderers and rapists play, why not a dog murderer.

Beth Wong: While I don't condone his actions, he has done his time. While I initially said no way, I guess everyone deserves a second chance. it's just too bad he gets millions for it.

Angelo Forgione: In Philly M. Vick was invited into several middle schools to speak of the ills of dog fighting and the way it has changed his life. Yet, the president was barred from speaking about the importance of education and self-responsibility to many students in Philly and across this nation. Go Figure!!!!! (Let him play! If he turns out to be a dog he'll be killed by the Philly fans and media!!!!!)

Roy Bunting: Sure he should. When people make mistakes, they do their penance and then should have a second chance. Ideally, they come back ready to transmute the bad karmic decisions of their past into an overall positive experience.

That said, from what I have seen from him, he doesn't appear to have changed his mind about animals. His only remorse, if you can call it that, was over losing his money, status, and freedom for a while.

Jack Akin: people that stupid should not be given millions

Eric Honcoop: Its a tough call, made even more complex by my love for dogs (yellow labs FTW!) and my admiration for the explosive Vickplays... (can he still do that?)

My vote: The man did his time, give him a chance (show us those surprise-runs mr Vick) If he ever so much as LOOKS at a dog again, all other players leave the field and 50 angry pitbulls get released onto the field. Show us your run-capabilities then Mr. Vick :-)

Leontine Honcoop: I think Vick is a good player for the NFL. No, I don't think he's a great QB, but for a wildcat, he's the best. He should be RB, I think...

Wouter van Zutphen: Vick has been convicted and paid his punishment, why should Roger be above the law and punish him more?

Bob Shupp: Big game today at the Meadowlands as the Jets surprisingly good performance in Houston has raised all of our expectations. Beautiful weather, full tailgate planned, it doesn't get any better than this! Oh wait, a jets win over the Pats could make it better. We haven't seen one of those since the Groh era. GO JETS

Way to stay on topic there, Boobie. Obviously your thoughts were elsewhere and rightly so. THE most important story of the NFL right now is the uprising of the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. Yes, the Jets beat New England and set the stage for what could be a most wonderful season. Or they could break our hearts once again and collapse after another fine start. Either way, right now it's safe to say that THIS IS NOT YOUR FATHER'S JETS (no offense to Jet Fathers everywhere).

Extra Points
The Fastest Three Minutes in Football Happenings

One thing we've learned so far this NFL season is that any team can beat any other team in the NFL (except the Lions, who can't beat anybody). Last year's top team off the bat was Tennessee who went 10-0 before losing to Gang Green. This year the Titans are 0-2. The Jets are 2-0 for the first time this century. The Patriots are a dumb kick-off return away from being 0-2. And the St. Louis Rams have scored a total of 7 points in two games.

[ I love the whole AFL Anniversary throwback thing. The Refs in orange stripes look great. While I can live without the NY Titans (Jets) uniforms, there's no outfits uglier than what the Denver Broncos will wear at some point this season. Mustard yellow shirts, brown pants, and vertically stripped socks (yes, vertical stripes!). Those Broncos uni's were so ugly in 1960 that the team held a public burning of the things after the season. In 1961 they went with a blue/orange scheme that lead to what they wear now.

[ You may have heard that the Jets were recently fined by the league because last season they failed to report the extent of Brett Favre's injuries during the season. The trouble I have with this is that no matter how serious his injuries may have been, he PLAYED/STARTED every week! Why list him as "questionable" or "doubtful" when they KNEW he was going to start no matter what? Meanwhile, Belicheat up in NE is constantly playing games with his injury list and no one bats an eye. Yuck!

[ The new Cowboys stadium opened officially this past week. I haven't been there yet, and may never see a game there, so I can't speak to the experience of the stadium. One seemingly cool feature is the Standing Room Only areas. For a mere $29, you get entrance to the place, and can roam around, spend a ton of money on food and beer and stand shoulder to shoulder with other smelly Cowboy fans in the second level behind one of the end zones. That price seems pretty good, only $29! But factor in parking, as much as $75/space to park on the same property as the stadium. Or you can park "off property" for a more reasonable $20-$50 and then walk 1.2 miles thru a dilapidated area of Arlington, only to arrive and be told you can't go inside because they oversold the SRO areas. Watching the game at home on TV, I was amazed at the huge crowd of people OUTSIDE the stadium watching the game on large outdoor TV screens. Did those people just want to be close to the action and went knowing they didn't have tickets? No. Those were fans that were turned away, even having paid the $29 for an SRO ticket and paying to park and walk, for the privilege of standing outside. Nice job, Jerry.
