Ralph Makes A Fashion Statement

AFC Teams  --  NFC Teams

Personal fashion is not my forte. I don't stop to consider if my shirt goes with my pants or my shoes or my socks when I dress. I don't care about what's in style. In high school I started wearing Hawaiian shirts because they were loud and out of place. By the time I was tired of that look, they had actually begun to become an accepted part of fashion. I then moved on to wearing NHL hockey shirts all the time. Again, at the time it was a fashion faux-paz, but I didn't care. A few years later, you could find many popular Rap/R&B artists sporting hockey jerseys. Then when I started cutting the sleeves off my t-shirts, not to show off my massive "guns" but for the sake of comfort, I was the only one doing such a thing. As I began to grow tired of that look, t-shirt manufacture's began selling sleeveless t-shirts to the masses. It's for these reasons that I say, "I don't follow fashion trends, I set them." So with that in mind, come with me as I travel thru the ONE portion of the fashion industry that I do actually follow closely. That is the fashion of the NFL.
One of the first things that attracted me to Football as a child was the uniforms. The helmets, the jerseys, the colors, the logos, all of it fascinated me. I developed an eye for such things and can spot a subtle uniform change of any team within about 3 seconds of seeing their new look. This being the case, I have formed many opinions on what I like and what I don't like in an NFL uniform. Instead of just offering up a list of my favorites and non-favorites, this season I decided to devote several columns that will stretch out thru the season, and assign my own grading scale to each aspect of each team's uniforms. I'll focus on the Home and Away Jersey shirts, the Helmets, the Logos, the Pants, Old vs. New, and History/Classicness (meaning, do they hold to a certain historical aspect or a classic style). Can any team match the horrific look of the 1960 Denver Broncos (pictured above) and their vertically striped socks? A couple teams sure are trying.
I split up the compilation of all 32 teams into their respective conferences and divisions. Click below to go to those respective conferences...
